Is US defining a new era of NEO-CAPITALISM ?
Focusing on some changes happening in the US laws in last 1 year, I could find that
1) US taking away the tax holidays given to companies doing business in India and other countries.
2) Restrictions on outsourcing laws.
3) Restricting number of H1B visas.
4) President even giving a wake-up call to US students that "Go to school or you be left out compared to Indian/Chinese students".
I cannot prevent myself from quoting his words as given below.
Obama's words
"Even with the good schools, we've got to pick up the pace, because the world has gotten competitive. The Chinese, the Indians, they're coming at us and they're coming at us hard, and they're hungry, and they're really buckling down.
And they watch - their kids watch a lot less TV than our kids do, play a lot fewer video games, they're in the classroom a lot longer.
So here's the bottom line. We've got to improve, we've got to step up our game. While the average public school is actually doing a reasonably good job... we are falling behind when it comes to math; our kids are falling behind when it comes to science...
We used to be head and shoulders above other countries when it came to education. We aren't anymore. We're sort of in the middle of the pack now among wealthy, advanced, industrialised countries."
I felt proud, not when an American President said the above, but for the Indian students working harder. And the analysis came from the head of a nation, closely monitoring other nations with sophisticated analyzing tools.
Is US getting away from their CAPITALISM, or they started understanding that CAPITALISM holds good for the most powerful nation only, and now they fear that they will be no more the supreme power ?
Capitalism is a social process, in which the person who spends the Capital have to generate MAXIMUM profit out of it, by whatever means. Hence any US multinationals find, Outsourcing as an option to increase their profits. Putting restriction on this front clearly indicates a country cannot solely depend on profit-hungry capatalists, if they want all the classes other than capitalists to be promoted in the society.
CAPITALISTS will definitely look for a high-productive low-paid Indian than an American, to make more profit. This made US president to go for the warning to US kids, who spend more on Video Games and TV than school, compared to Indians ?.
Later even by restricting US laws might not be able to prevent US companies getting hard-working Indian/Chinese kids. Hence in short, CAPITALISM gives the scope for only the SURVIVAL for CAPITALISTS.

Which socialism u r talking abt? Is it Pinarayi's lavlin socialism or PBs socialism to protect the criminals? Is it the one that killed many in Nandigram? Check in the history, socialism values everything but not human life. This had happened in Russia & continue to happen in China & India....
ReplyDeleteSocialism by name & concept is good is not a practical solution for anything..
Hello Moon,
ReplyDeleteWhy are you blaming capitalism? let you have a comparison of capitalism and socialism in world wide.I agree that the socialism is a good concept, but its not practical.
You just think now what is going on in Bangal? They are rejecting the communism and socialism. People do not want conceptual thoughts for their hunger and life. They want basic needs and requirement.
I humbly request you to go through the Indian history. Why India continues the development? Its main factor is the Globalization and privatization introduced by the Manmohan Singh in 1992.Your socialism not yet gain anything for India or even for Bangal. You just compare the peoples life in Bangal with other states, some how they are below Bihar, even it is ruled by your socialist Govt for the 32 years.
Now what is happening to Communist party in India???!!! In PB, Achuthanandan is quilted as he opposes the crimes and filled with criminals like Pinarayi!!!!!!
Moon, I completely agree with Pachikka that Socialism is not a practical solution for anything.........
Hello Fahid/Sajath
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I never talked about socialism in my post. I was focusing on modifications going on in American (Capitalist) economy. We can see that, those modifications tends to some other economic process having some qualities of socialism, but not socialism.
And I'll try to put a separate post for discussing Kerala politics of PV and VS and the Nandigram. And destruction of Russia was inevitable for US, which they finally succeeded to an extend. And other two countries Fahid mentioned(out of which 1 is my country, which is not a socialist/communist) are the 2 fastest growing countries in the world for last few years. And Sajath, please be understood that Manmohan Signh's brain was not behind Liberalization and Globalization in India. India in 1992, was compelled to do that as per Credit agreements, we had signed with World Bank, IMF etc. Any Finance Minister would have did the same. And I still doesn't believe Globalization will bring India the very best. Also India has not entered a stage of complete liberalized market, for which even the Nehru's(SOCIALIST-Congress man), Indira's policies has to be congratulated. At Sajath, whether a country's growth should be measured by a scale of luxuries we enjoy, with the number of Industries we have, with competent market we have ?? I think it shld be measured with a scale of Poor population, or Poor's Income or Poor to Rich ratio. And finally, Bengal is not a communist state. And it's better to avoid state comparison. Also I didn't find Kerala(first Communist govt in world came through ballot) ruled by Communist govts for more than 20 years in your comparisons.
